Xplode

Description

Xplode was a solo project designed and developed for Android. The premise is that the Player Character has wrist attachments that allow them to fire explosions from their wrist. The player must navigate levels by using the force of these explosions to fly through the air.

The intention behind Xplode was to try and successfully tap into the mobile design mindset, the mechanic is designed to be simple and easy to use whilst maintaining a high skill level. It uses inverted movement, high speeds and 360° control of direction for fast-paced and exciting gameplay. To compliment this I designed the levels and flow to try and create the level of difficulty that makes players want to keep trying when they fail. These elements combined to create a game designed to be a 'pick up' game, one that players can jump straight into on their daily commute and drop when they need to.

As Xplode was a solo project; I researched, designed and developed the game by myself.

Maintaining critical evaluation and ensuring justified design throughout was a large part of bringing this project through a development life cycle alone.
